Music is a lifelong activity. Taking flute lessons at any age can enhance your quality of life, and making music is something that most people can participate in throughout all of the phases of their lives.
Music connects you to a community. Being a part of the music community by learning an instrument allows you to instantly connect with people across the world with similar interests. For school-aged students, it’s an instant group of people who you’ll know and be able to make friends with throughout middle and high school. For adults, continuing to make music in a community band or other group is not only fulfilling, but also an easy way to get to know people if you move to a new town or state.
Music teaches you to always look for something beautiful. By studying an instrument, we invest in ourselves to not only do something that we enjoy, but also something that teaches us about beauty in a way that only music can.
On the other hand, studying music teaches us to be humble and to know that there is always something to improve. Anyone learning a musical instrument is also learning problem solving skills, self-discipline, and how to learn with a growth mindset.
The flute is a beautiful, lyrical instrument. I’m thankful that I took the opportunity to learn and work with so many amazing musicians. I myself have found communities everywhere I have lived who share the love of music, have made friends and traveled to places I wouldn’t have without being a part of the band, and have enjoyed the challenge and beauty of creating music and improving my skills.
